RISING DOMINATES AS THE MUCKDOGS BEAT THE PIONEERS
Elmira, NY - Luc Rising tossed five hitless innings of relief as the Batavia Muckdogs defeated the Elmira Pioneers 8-3.
Rising has now thrown 24 straight scoreless innings, the longest such streak for any Muckdog pitcher this season.
The Pioneers scored three runs in the first inning off Batavia starter Pablo Sainz, highlighted by an RBI single from center fielder Brett Baker.
Batavia scored three of their own in the second behind a two-run double from second baseman Omar Carreras and an RBI single from right fielder Jacob Veczko.
The game would stay 3-3 until the sixth inning, as Elmira starter Bobby Boing and Rising, who came in for Sainz with no outs in the fourth, each retired 10 batters in a row in the middle innings.
Batavia broke the tie in the sixth inning with an RBI single from designated hitter James Bolton. Bolton tallied two RBIs in the win, improving his total on the season to 19.
A pair of errors from Elmira first baseman Cooper Smith extended the Muckdogs lead to 5-3 in the eighth inning. They kept adding insurance runs in the ninth, tallying three runs on four hits. They concluded the day with eight runs and 12 hits.
Evan Hollandsworth pitched a scoreless ninth in relief of Rising. He dropped his ERA to 3.48 on the season.
Brayden Horton, Omar Carreras, and Jacob Veczko all recorded multiple hits and an RBI in the win. Carreras hit two doubles, improving his average on the season to .277.
Rising now leads the Muckdogs with 33.2 innings pitched. He has allowed just four earned runs this season. He holds a 1.08 ERA.
The Muckdogs improved their record to 25-10-1 on the season. They’re first in the West Division, 2.5 games ahead of the Tarp Skunks. The Pioneers dropped to 21-17-1. They’re 2.5 games behind the Doubledays for fourth in the west.
The Muckdogs are back in action on July 18th, as they take on the Geneva Red Wings in Geneva. The game begins at 6:30 PM and will be livestreamed on the Batavia Muckdogs YouTube Channel.
