MUCKDOGS SECURE THE SOLE POSESSION OF FIRST PLACE

Batavia, NY - The Muckdogs exploded for eight runs in the first inning en route to a 9-3 victory over the Niagara Falls Americans, putting them in sole possession of first place in the West Division.

“We’ve got a bunch of dogs in this clubhouse. They’ve been resilient all year,” said head coach Joey ‘Skip’ Martinez.

The Americans scored one run in the first inning, before the Muckdogs' offensive onslaught began.

Batavia sent twelve hitters to the plate in the first, had five hits, and scored eight runs, highlighted by a two-out, two-run triple from third baseman Omar Carreras. Niagara Falls starting pitcher CJ Hurley was taken out after just one inning.

The Americans slowed the Muckdog bats after the first inning behind five scoreless innings of relief from right-hander Matthew Kasprowicz.

Walker Glyshaw tossed five stellar frames for Batavia, allowing one earned run. He picked up his second win of the season for his efforts.

Luc Rising entered the game in the sixth inning in relief of Glyshaw and dazzled, striking out six batters over 2.1 hitless innings. He dropped his season ERA to 1.54.

Closer Garrett Beaver entered the game in the eighth inning and struck out five batters across 1.2 innings. He allowed one run off a two-out RBI double from Niagara Falls third baseman Shane Pray.

Rising and Beaver recorded the final twelve outs of the game and struck out eleven. With fourteen strikeouts as a pitching staff, the Muckdogs set a season high.

Batavia improved its record on the season to 18-9. They hold a one-game lead in the PGCBL’s West Division. Niagara Falls drops to 17-10. They are second in the West.
