MUCKDOGS REMAIN UNDEFEATED VS GENEVA

Geneva, NY - The Batavia Muckdogs tallied two innings with five runs or more as they defeated the Geneva Red Wings 13-6.

Batavia has won all four contests versus Geneva this season.

The Red Wings got on the board first, scoring one run on two hits versus Muckdogs’ starter Walker Glyshaw.

Extra hitter Blake Ewing made a wild trip around the bases, stealing second base, attempting to steal third on the following play, and then taking home on a throwing error from Geneva pitcher Dawson Thomas.

Geneva added two runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from third baseman Casey Burcroff and an error from shortstop Tyler Castrataro.

The Muckdogs' first scoring outburst came in the fifth inning, where they scored seven runs on six hits to take an 8-3 lead. Omar Carreras and Jacob Veczko both provided RBI hits versus Geneva reliever Jesus Soto.

The Red Wings were opportunistic at the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs on no hits to make it an 8-6 game.

The score would hold at 8-6 until the eighth inning, when the Muckdogs added another five runs, all with two outs. First baseman James Bolton hit a three-run double, proceeding to score on the next play as Carreras laced an RBI triple. With three hits and three RBIs, Carreras is now 8-13 over his last three games with five extra base-hits and 6 runs driven in.

Reed Marcum and Jake Szlis closed the game out, striking out 10 batters over five hitless innings to secure the 13-6 Muckdog win—Marcum’s three innings and five strikeouts both marked season-highs for the right-hander.

Batavia improved to 26-10-1 on the season. They hold a 2.5-game lead for first place in the West Division. The Red Wings fell to 7-29-1. They have lost 12 games in a row.
