MUCKDOGS RALLY TO WALK-OFF DOUBLEDAYS IN EXTRAS
Batavia, NY
Muckdogs snap 3 game losing streak with thunderous comeback at home against the Auburn Doubledays.
Taking the bump for Batavia in this critical matchup was Pablo Sainz, one of the 8 West Division all stars for the Muckdogs. On the flip side was Matt McGeorge for the Doubledays.
After Sainz twirled a scoreless inning to start, the Muckdogs would jump ahead 2-0 in the bottom half of the inning as Tyler Castratoro would touch home plate off of a Cooper Fesh triple, and soon after Fesh would be brought home by a ground out by Omar Carreras.
The 2nd and 3rd innings went dormant for each teams bats leaving the score at 2-0 through 3 innings. The Auburn lineup would scratch across a run in the 4th after loading the bases, but they would only manage a single run as Pablo Sainz got out of the tough jam. The Muckdogs lineup would respond in the bottom half of the inning as a Luke Daddona 2 RBI single would increase Batavia’s lead to 4-1 after 4 innings.
In the top of the 5th inning Auburn’s bats would threaten Batavia again, loading the bases against Pablo Sainz who was replaced by Walker Glyshaw with 2 outs. Pablo had a very solid start for the Muckdogs throwing 4.2 innings and allowing only 1 earned run on 5 hits with 3 punchouts. Glyshaw did his job in relief and got out of the jam unscathed. Matt McGeorge would finish his outing after 5 innings of work and kept the Muckdogs lead at 4-1 after 5.
In the top of the 6th the Doubleday’s lineup would jump all over Batavia’s bullpen scoring a total of 9 runs in the inning after knocking Wallker Glyshaw out of the game after 0.2 innings. New Muckdogs reliever Reed Marcum would enter and struggle with control giving up 4 runs himself until Cole Taylor came in and eventually got out of the nightmare inning for Batavia. The Muckdogs lineup would help out their staff in the bottom of the inning as 2 walks would put runners on base for Caleb Walker who singled to load the bases. Then Cooper Romich roped a double to bring in 2 with an additional run scoring in the next AB via a Brayden Horton sac fly leaving the score at a ballooned 10-7.
After 2 scoreless innings by Cole Taylor, the Muckdogs lineup would bring some juice in the bottom of the 8th inning. Back to back singles from Travis Hammond and Tyler Castratoro would bring in 3 runs and have the game all knotted up at 10’s going into the 9th.
The 9th inning saw some theatrics but no runs would score as Eric Woodley pitched a dominant top of the inning. The Muckdogs would load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning, but was not able to score bringing the game to extra innings.
The top of the 10th inning was much of the same as Woodley shut the door again. In a Déjà vu moment, the Muckdogs loaded the bases again but got the job done this time as Tyler Castratoro would complete the 7 run comeback and walkoff the Doubledays to snatch an 11-10 victory at home.
With the win Batavia’s record moves to 28-13-1 on the season. More importantly, Batavia moves back into first place. Auburn’s record sits at 23-14-5 and are still in 4th place. There are only 3 games left in the season and the playoff race is getting exciting!
