BATAVIA SHUTS DOWN PILOTS, STAYS ATOP PGCBL
Newark, NY - The Muckdogs tossed a two-hit shutout as Batavia defeated the Newark Pilots 11-0 in seven innings.
The shutout was the second of the season for Batavia.
The Muckdogs bats came out hot against Newark’s Logan Bulman, scoring three runs in the first inning on a bases-clearing triple from catcher Cooper Fesh.
After a 1-2-3 first inning for Batavia starter Cole Taylor, the Muckdogs offense kept rolling, tallying six runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-run double from third baseman Jackson Inman. Bulman was pulled after just 1.1 innings of work, allowing seven earned runs.
Taylor cruised through five scoreless innings, striking out five, allowing two hits, and walking two. He never faced more than four batters in an inning.
Fesh put the Muckdogs in double figures in the fourth inning on a sac fly. The West Division All-Star had four RBIs on the day, increasing his total on the season to 16.
Samuel Gil relieved Taylor in the sixth, tossing two hitless innings in his second appearance of the summer in league play. He struck out three batters, lowering his ERA to 3.86.
The 11-0 run-rule victory was their fourth such win this season.
Batavia improved to 23-10-1 on the season. They are 1.5 games ahead of the Jamestown Tarp Skunks for first place in the PGCBL’s West Division. Newark dropped to 15-17-2. They sit in sixth place in the west.
