Americans Come Up Short Against Tarp Skunks for the Fourth Time This Season

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Taking to the road for the first time this week, the Niagara Falls Americans dropped an 8-2 decision to the Jamestown Tarp Skunks at Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park on Saturday night. After two scoreless innings, the Americans drew first blood when Miguel Salcedo drilled a triple down the right field line and scored on a Cooper Rowell sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the inning, the Tarp Skunks tied the game at one after a sacrifice fly of their own. James Dixon then led off the fifth for Jamestown with a double, and after a walk and an error, Eric Weeks punched a two-out, two-run single to left field, making it a 3-1 game. Jamestown added another run in the seventh after Weeks delivered another RBI single. In his third start of the season, Aiden Mroz fired seven innings for the Americans, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits, while walking four and striking out five. It was Mroz’s first loss of the season, dropping his record to 2-1. In the eighth, the Americans pushed across a run on a Dominick Zangardi sacrifice fly to center field. However, that would be all they could muster for the remainder of the contest. Colin Price came on in relief for Mroz and was charged with four runs (three earned) on three hits and one error, with two walks. David Harris finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base. He has now reached base safely in six straight games and leads the team with a .425 batting average. Dominick Zangardi went 2-for-3 with an RBI and has now driven in a run in three of his last four games. The Americans finished with two errors in tonight’s matchup, marking their 11th consecutive game with at least one defensive error. The loss drops the Americans to 8-11 overall and 1-4 against Jamestown this season, while the Tarp Skunks improved to 13-6.
