Batavia Welcomes CAN-USA Sports LLC

CAN-USA Sports LLC is excited to be keeping baseball in Batavia! Owners Robbie and Nellie Nichols have secured the rights and a lease to Dwyer Stadium and will bring a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League team to the city of Batavia for at least the next 5 years.

With minor league franchises all over the country being ripped away from beloved fanbases the Nichols’ stepped in to make sure that the sights and sounds of baseball would not be taken from a town rich in baseball history.

Dating back to May 14, 1897 Batavia played in the New York State League as the Batavia Giants. Since then the Batavia franchise joined the PONY League from 1939-1953 before jumping into the now defunct New York-Penn League since 1957. Though the name has changed over time from Indians to the Pirates then the Trojans and Clippers, Muckdogs baseball has stuck in Batavia.

The storied franchise has had 20 no hitters and two perfect games, four League titles, and six division titles. The alumni who have played here range from World Series Champions to All Stars to NHL and NFL athletes. Dwyer Stadium is and will continue to be an asset to the community.

The Nichols have revitalized a baseball community in Elmira, NY. Not only is there baseball and the atmosphere that comes with it in historic Dunn Field in Elmira, where they own the Elmira Pioneers, but there is a sentiment of giving back. The Pioneers are active in the Community attending Parades, hosting many special events, and giving back to the community who gives so much to the team during the season. Though there will be a team here the Nichols are invested in making this a community ballpark. There will be High School and Little League tournaments here on the same field where MLB prospects are playing.

The Pioneers who are also owned by the Nichols have been top 10 in the country in attendance for the past decade, another tradition they plan on bringing to Batavia.

CAN-USA Sports LLC Owner Robbie Nichols told media members “We look forward to bringing a team back to Batavia, a city rich in baseball history. This field and stadium are in amazing condition and it will be extra special to see the grandstands full of people cheering on the newest addition to the long illustrious history of Batavia baseball.”

The Batavia Team will play in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. The league is one of the top rated summer leagues in the country. The leagues consists of 14 teams: the Adirondack Trail Blazers, Albany Ductchmen, Amsterdam Mohawks, Elmira Pioneers, Geneva Red Wings, Glens Falls Dragons, Jamestown Tarp Skunks, Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs, Newark Pilots, Saugerties Stallions, Utica Blue Sox, and the Watertown Rapids. Many players are drafted every year from the PGCBL and many go on to be drafted by the MLB and play for MLB teams.

The President of the PGCBL Robert Julian was very excited about the team from Batavia joining the league. “Batavia is a very important addition to our league. It is a first class baseball town with dedicated fans and a beautiful facility. We know that we can provide Batavia baseball fans with a very high quality competition and an excellent fan setting. Rob Nichols and his group are first class operators who will provide a great overall fan experience. Welcome Batavia!”
